History senior, Itzel Mar is awarded first place for presentation at the Undergraduate Research Symposium

History senior Itzel Mar has been named the first-place winner of the best oral presentation for the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (CHASS) at the 20th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. Itzel was recognized at a luncheon on June 1st, 2026, hosted by the Center for Undergraduate Research & Engaged Learning (CUREL). 

Itzel’s presentation centered on her undergraduate thesis research titled, “Cultura Sonidera: The Sounds and Dances of Mexico City in Orange County, California.”

Itzel’s thesis mentor is Dr. Jorge Leal. Itzel will be graduating with distinction within the Department of History this Spring 2026.
