The History Department is proud to announce that Marissa Hull has been awarded a 2026 ACLS Leading Edge Fellowship.
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Leading Edge Fellowship Program supports outstanding early-career PhDs in the humanities and social sciences as they join the work of mission-driven nonprofit organizations. The program is made possible by a grant from the Mellon Foundation.
Dr. Hull is one of 14 fellows who will begin two-year positions in fall 2026, designed to take advantage of the numerous skills of PhD humanists while contributing to the work of host organizations.
Dr. Hull will work with Western North Carolina Community Health Services to provide high-quality and life-enriching health care to all people living within their region, regardless of ability to pay. The Health Policy Analyst will uphold WNCCHS’s commitment to high-quality access to health care for all patients through data analysis, community-based research, quality improvement, project management, and organizational cultural development. The fellow will leverage their background in the humanities and or interpretive social sciences to apply a humanistic framework to the programmatic and operational structures of the organization.
