On April 29, Dr. Shirley Weber — California’s first African American Secretary of State — spoke to the UCR community about her efforts to create the first statewide reparations task force (CA-AB3121). This lecture was part of the UCR History department's Sterling Stuckey Lecture Series, which was designed to honor the life and legacy of the late Professor Sterling Stuckey. This two-year task force was formed to study the consequences of slavery and systemic racism against African Americans in California, and develop reparations proposals.
