My dissertation explores the convergence of history and public memory through the lens of Méndez, et al v. Westminster School District of Orange County, et al (1947) court case, wherein five families successfully challenged the segregation of Mexican American children within the Orange County, California, public school system. I am particularly interested in the processes by which people and institutions recall, lay claim to, understand, represent, and/or contest the history of the Méndez case.
