Biography

My first book analyzed the growth of credit markets in the absence of banks in Mexico during the nineteenth century; and I have a second book in the works on the survival of credit markets and networks during the Mexican Revolution.

I also work in the Digital Humanities, a field that defies any one definition. I like to think of it as a place where computational and statistical methods meet the Humanities. The cross-disciplinary nature of the Digital Humanities  makes it a field where collaboration and sharing are the norm. This is in large part why I am working on an open and searchable database of my research documents.

I teach classes on Latin American history and World History, as well as an online gateway course to the History major called “The Historian’s Workshop” which teaches lower division History majors the basic tools of historical research – it introduces students to primary sources and how historians use them – as well as historical writing and form.
