The History Major

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
     In order to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, students must take 48 units (12 courses). At least eight units (2 courses) must be at the lower-division level; at least 36 units (9 courses) must be at the upper-division level.
Majors must take:
  1. At least one World History course and at least one other lower-division course.
  2. At least four courses in one of the following areas of concentration, including a seminar (HIST 191 E-Z):
    Ancient and Medieval
    Europe
    United States
    Latin America
    Asia and Africa
    Please note that the seminar HIST 191 (E-Z) is required and must be taken in the student's area of concentration.
  3. At least four courses in a at least three other of the above fields.
     Lower-division courses taken elsewhere may be counted toward the lower-division requirement, and advance placement units earned in high school may count toward its fulfillment as well.
Students are encouraged to take additional courses in American History (History 17A-17B) and world history (History 10, 15, 20) as background.

     The University requirement in World History may be counted toward the 8 units of lower-division work.

     Each History major is urged to consult with the Student Affairs Officer for quarterly advising and to meet with the Undergraduate Advisor at least one time each year.
